Marisol's Story
Seven's wish to be a chef
Marisol knew she had to get involved with Make-A-Wish when she first saw the wish-granting organization featured on TV. “What a great organization that is,” she thought. That moment stayed with her, and years later, she found herself in a unique position to make a difference.
As a dedicated community member and Rotary Club volunteer, Marisol had a dream – literally. “Sometime in December, I had a dream, and it said ‘Make-A-Wish’,” she explained. Acting on her vision, she proposed a fundraising event to her local Rotary Club. With their full support and the help of her local Make-A-Wish chapter, an event was set for April. “April felt like the right month,” she said, and it turned out to be perfect, as it marks the anniversary of the founding of Make-A-Wish – World Wish Month.
Marisol’s fundraiser, a silent auction, exceeded expectations. “People gave so many things – trips, art, even a decorator donated their time to beautify the space,” Marisol recalled. The community rallied together, raising thousands of dollars and creating an unforgettable experience for everyone. “Everybody had such a good feeling,” she said.
For Marisol, the moment became even more remarkable when she discovered that the dollars raised would go toward a wish for Seven, a child her granddaughter knew. “It was beautiful that I even got to see it,” she said.
I believe it truly gives kids hope.
Marisol’s story is a reminder that when we act on the inspiration to help, incredible things happen. “Everybody wants to give,” she said. “It was very easy to get donations because people care about giving children hope.”
She encourages others to step up and become a WishMaker, too. “Talk to your friends, go through the community, and explain that you're trying to help a child. You won’t have a problem because everyone wants to help make a child’s wish come true.” Will you become a WishMaker and make wishes come true for more children like Seven?
